GCSE Section B - TV Comedy Comparing Programmes

Comparing Programmes

Learning Objective - To understand how to compare comedy programmes for one of the two exam questions.

One of your questions will ask you to compare two comedy programmes.  It will sound like one of these:

Compare the audience pleasures offered by two comedy programmes you have studied.
OR
Compare the way two comedy programmes you have studied have been scheduled on different channels.
Exercise One: Conduct some research into these two different comedies - The Simpsonsand Mock the Week.
Find out about the type of comedies they are and what pleasures they offer.  Then conduct research into how and why they are scheduled.
Remember, it may be necessary for you to watch YouTube clips of these shows in order to be able to provide specific examples of audience pleasures - something which you must do for the higher marks.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ONE of your questions will ask you to write about two shows. In this question, you are expected to be able to explain how and why the two shows you choose are the same or different.
Copy the tables below to make your notes.
Exercise Two: Using the notes that you have made in the tables above, write an exam answer comparing-
  1. How Mock the Week and The Simpsons are scheduled.
  2. The audience pleasures offered by The Simpsons and Mock the Week.
Then use the provided marking schemes below to improve your answers.
